Why should you use an anode on your Boat ???

All metallic components, such as a Steel Boat Hull or shafts & skin fittings can be affected by electrolysis under water. This is where metal gets corroded by electrical currents in the water around the boat structure. There is no metal that is completely immune to galvanic corrosion. Even metals that are normally corrosion free, can be affected by corrosion. Protection is achieved by means of adding Sacrificial anodes, as they get eroded slowly. The anode type is dependent on many factors, such as the anode alloy, sailing area, paint damage, screw type, etc. Replacement is recommended once 70% to 80% of the anode is used. Zinc Anodes for Saltwater areas. Aluminium Anodes for Fresh water areas
